The Edwin I. Hatch Nuclear Plant, located in Baxley was Georgia’s first nuclear-powered electric generating station and is one of three nuclear facilities in the Southern Company System. Unit 1 began commercial operation in 1975. More than 800 people oversee the plant’s operations 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

The City of Baxley, Georgia is located in Appling County in the southeastern part of Georgia. Rich farm and timber lands as well as numerous lakes, streams and rivers comprise the geography of the region. As the county seat, Baxley is the largest city in the county and serves as the employment, commercial and medical hub for the area. As many of today's cities become more and more crowded, filled with strangers and traffic jams, Baxley has succeeded in managing its growth to provide its citizens with all the amenities of a large town without all the hassles!
